Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After a long career in public relations and resource development, I closed up shop and trained to become a yoga and meditation instructor. Since 2010 my small yoga and meditation studio has become a source of awareness and serenity for over 200 women.
Yoga for Detectives: Interconnected is the second book in a two-book series (so far). Getting to know the characters and letting them guide me continues to be a fun adventure.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Yoga for Detectives: Interconnected, my latest book, was inspired by a recent trip to India.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can often sit down to write and find myself in the same position eight hours later. Learning to take a yoga break every two hours to save my back and shoulders has been one of the best things that’s happened to my writing habit in the past year.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Along the way I’ve been influenced by authors Natalie Goldberg, Gay Hendricks and the supportive, helpful writers in my two writers’ groups.
What are you working on now?
I’m taking a dive out of my comfort zone to write a political thriller these days.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Sending emails to people who have reviewed similar books to mine has been the method that has helped me promote my books so far.
I’m on the lookout for other methods, too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best two most important bits of advice I have for new authors are (1) write and (2) have fun with your writing. Beyond that I’d also suggest joining a writers’ group of two, asking for and heeding good advice and finding talented beta readers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice that I received was found in many articles and in the recommendations of many authors who advise self-publishing rather than traditional publishing.
What are you reading now?
Walking with Peety by Eric O’Grey
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on traveling for a year, renting an apartment in places I’ve loved on other trips and staying for a few months at a time in each. While traveling I hope to meet people who have chosen alternative lifestyles and write a book with a chapter about each of them.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Long Quiet Highway by Natalie Goldberg
