Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m Ben Jackson and I have written approx 10 books now. I have written several non-fiction books alongside my wife, Sam Lawrence, as well as a fiction and a popular series of children’s books.
I live in Australia, and my wife lives in Canada. We have been in a committed long distance relationship for four years now.
My children’s books are my favorite and are based on a young boy called Timmy, and his best imaginary friend, the Little Fart!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is the Day My Fart Followed Me To Soccer. Timmy is playing soccer and helps one of his teammates learn the basics of soccer and encourages her to join in.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure! I know that some writers like to relax and certain routines. Mine is to watch Netflix or movies and write while I watch my television. I do like to write in my room with the window open so I can look out across the ocean.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love reading and some of my favorite authors would have to be Wilbur Smith, James A Michener, and Bernard Cornwall just to name a few. James Patterson is right up there, and James Clavell.
One of the authors that have stepped up and helped me out the most and continues to do so is Carole P Roman. She continues to offer me advice and support whenever I need it.
What are you working on now?
We just released The Day My Fart Followed Me To Soccer and If I Was A Caterpillar. The book we are working on next has a tooth fairy element to it and we are hoping to release it within the next month.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m not sure if I have a ‘best method’ yet. We just keep trying small thinks and dipping our toes into the marketing and advertising pool.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up, take advice and be open to constructive criticism. Normally, even in the worst review, there is something you can take from it and improve on. For every minute you spend making your book, double it on marketing and promoting. Get your book out there, blogs, author interviews, websites, features, social media, whatever it takes.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up! Keep writing and keep going. If something isn’t working, don’t give up, just try moving in a different direction for a while.
What are you reading now?
Well, trying to read Clive Cussler’s The Kingdom, but not making a lot of progress! Between freelance writing, ghost writing, studying and my 9-5 job there isn’t a lot of time left for reading!!!
What’s next for you as a writer?
More books! I’m working on a collaboration with several other authors to release a Halloween project.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I couldn’t answer it. James Clavell’s Asian Series, King Rat is pretty damn powerful.
