Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written four novels that have been published all are mystery/thrillers and have lots of dark twists.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Treasure of Cedar Creek is about three young women who escape a polygamous compound in Idaho in 1896. I live in Idaho and love to ride horses in the mountains. I have researched the history of this area. The religious abuse that happens in the story is similar to things that occurred back then and still are happening today.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write with my dogs under my desk. They know when it’s time to get to work on a story and follow me back and stay there until I’m finished writing for the day.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Margaret Mitchell was the first author that influenced me. Her novel is the reason I love to write stories. There are so many other books that I’ve loved over the years, it is hard to name just a few. I love to get lost in a story, whether it’s reading or writing.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a novel that is a horror story set in the lava rock caves and cliffs of the Snake River of Eastern Idaho.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use social media a lot. Being a news anchor and reporter, people like to connect with me through Facebook and Twitter, so I use those to promote my novels.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Remember why you love this. It’s about the passion of writing and reading. It is wonderful to have people read your books, but don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t pay the bills. Continue to write and continue to enjoy it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just sit your butt in the chair and write. Nothing will ever get written if you keep talking about it and thinking about it. Sit down and start typing.
What are you reading now?
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I’m loving it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to continue to do what I’m doing. I love spending my days writing and dreaming up new stories to tell. I have a number of book signings and speaking events for the new novel this summer, but I will always be writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Gone with the Wind.
