Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Carrie Cross, and so far I have one published novel, SKYLAR ROBBINS: THE MYSTERY OF SHADOW HILLS. The sequel, SKYLAR ROBBINS: THE MYSTERY OF THE HIDDEN JEWELS will be out right before Christmas.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The inspiration for SKYLAR ROBBINS: THE MYSTERY OF SHADOW HILLS came when I was six years old, and my parents decided we needed to buy a bigger house. We looked at a creepy two-story in Santa Monica Canyon, and I played hide-and-seek with the little girl who lived there. There were closets and secret hiding places with doors that opened into other rooms. Later, I wondered, “What if there was a clue hidden in one of those closets, or a secret message written on the wall in invisible ink?” I never forgot that house, and it inspired me to write a mystery series with a smart, funny teen detective. That quirky sleuth is Skylar Robbins.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes an idea will strike me, and no matter where I am or what I am doing I HAVE TO WRITE IT DOWN! Once I was on an airplane with nothing to write on, so I scribbled a scene down on a barf bag.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ayn Rand, Lee Child, Sarah Dessen, Deb Caletti, Robert Crais
What are you working on now?
My second Skylar Robbins mystery, SKYLAR ROBBINS: THE MYSTERY OF THE HIDDEN JEWELS.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not give up! Self-publish rather than wasting time trying to get an agent. You’ll end up doing all of your own promotion anyway and your book will be published much faster.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Calvin Coolidge’s: Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
What are you reading now?
Rereading Lee Child’s Nothing to Lose, and a non-fiction book about conjoined twins: One of Us.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Book 3 in the Skylar Robbins mystery series: The Mystery of the Missing Heiress.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume.
