Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Leo – that should tell you a lot about me! I love art, chocolate, warm weather and going to the hairdresser. In real life, I work two jobs, as an assistant in a dental office, and as a researcher for RF radiation. In my spare time, I write books! How many books? That’s a good question! I think I’ve written and published about 35 books, with many different publishers.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Road to Alexander is a time travel book that I started as a short story, and ended up as a 7 book series! It’s a fun romp through ancient Greece and Persia in the company of Alexander the Great, his time-traveling wife, and his whole army. and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved researching and writing it.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I seem to be able to write with the television blaring, the kids playing, the dogs barking, and my husband asking “what’s for dinner?” every five minutes!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite author is Ray Bradbury, and his writing influenced me from an early age. I think I’ve been writing sci-fi books since I was about nine years old, lol. Another writer I adore is Diana Norman – her books are fantastic – and Dorothy Dunnett’s as well.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a YA sci-fi set in outer space with horses – space cowboys! Books I to 3 are out at Evernight Teen, and I am trying to wrap up book 4!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I blog a lot, and I have a Facebook page. I also threaten all my freinds and family that I’ll write them in as mean characters dying horrible deaths if they don’t buy my books. Actually, I’ve never tried that – but you just gave me the idea. 😉
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep reading, keep writing, edit, edit, edit, and keep the faith. I have faith in you! You can do it!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When in doubt, leave it out. Writers tend to get too wordy, keep it simple. Don’t put everything and the kitchen sink in the story. Stick to the plot. Hmm. That’s a lot of advice – but it’s all good and I try to listen.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Jenny Kane’s “Romancing Robin Hood” – it has everything I love in a story – history, humor, and romance.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, I have the rest of the Time for Alexander series coming out this year and into 2018 from Accent Press, and I have a couple screenplays I’d like to submit that are based on my Horse Passages books (“Riders of the Lightning Storm” and “Rebel Storm Riders” from Evernight Teen.) So I will be busy!
What is your favorite book of all time?
Just one? I can only choose one? My head just exploded! “Something Wicked this Way Comes”, or “R is or Rocket”, or “The Once and Future King”, or “Niccolo Rising”, or “Mistress of the Art of Death”….or why not “The Road to Alexander”!
