Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I used to work in the ad industry but decided that my words could be put to much better use entertaining people instead of misleading them.
I took a year out and wrote twenty books, just to establish a core routine, I intended them to be the kind of romantic/erotic books you just don’t seem to find anymore, filled with complex characters, emotionally compelling drama, well thought-out plot twists, thrilling denouements – in other words I wanted to write erotic books that were great literature first and foremost, the sensuality, the eros, would simply serve as an added dimension, as carefully crafted as any other aspect of the book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Flesh: The Debauchery of Madeline Abbot” was inspired by a real-life phenomenon called Night Visitations. Basically ordinary people, mostly women, are visited night after night by an invisible entity and in some cases they are sexually assaulted, this phenomenon has been reported worldwide and throughout history and was the subject of the 1976 film “The Entity”.
In that movie a woman is terrorized by the demon, but in my book, although terrified at first, the protagonist slowly begins to enjoy these erotic trysts, even as they wreck havoc on her life.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if you’d call it unusual but I like writing multiple books at the same time, it allows me to experiment with form and structure, working on four, five, sometimes six books simultaneously also limits writer’s block, in my opinion, there are just so many ideas in your head at any one time that you tend to suffer from the opposite condition; writer’s overload.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to mention.
Enid Blyton strangely enough, not for the quality of her books, but the fact she wrote so many of them, she was like a human writing machine, Erle Stanley Gardner was another writer in that vein, and then of course there’s people like J. D. Salinger, who only wrote one book and yet managed to change the literary world forever.
What are you working on now?
Four books, a book of short stories, a Victorian Romance, an erotic vampire caper, and the third book in the Bitch Majestic series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t have one website or method, I experiment with everything, I’m currently working on animated book trailers because I want to start using Youtube as a promotional tool, but Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google +, Goodreads, pretty much anything will help if its used right.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I am a new author so I’m not really someone to be taking advice from, but I think quality is a must, we’re indie authors but that doesn’t mean we have to be sloppy about it, there’s a lot of poorly written books on the market and that doesn’t reflect well on the rest of us, I think we have to realize we’re a community and we’re up against the giants, the only way to survive is to hold ourselves to very high standards, edit, rewrite, spellcheck, and get great, professional-looking covers, these things are an absolute must.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A friend once told me: “just because you failed doesn’t mean you have to get good at it”. I guess nobody ever really fails at anything, we just give up, so I’ve tried to develop the tenacity of a British bulldog, I’ll just keep going for something until I’ve mastered it.
What are you reading now?
The Alexander Secret: Book 1 of the Mahabharata Quest Series by Christopher C. Doyle.
Great book so far. I’ve just started it so you’ll be able to check out my Amazon review when I’ve finished.
What’s next for you as a writer?
The sky’s the limit. I’m continuing the Bitch Majestic series, of course, and I’m currently writing my first Romantic (non erotic) book, its a period piece set in an English manor during the passing of a powerful Earl, his family have turned up for the subsequent reading of the will, and of course we have betrayal, murder, family secrets, madness, and loads of passionate romance.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Dracula by Bram Stoker. Erotic, atmospheric, sensuous, terrifying, thought provoking, this book had everything and not one gratuitous scene in over four hundred pages –
