Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an author and owner of Elegant Ink Entertainment, LLC. I live in Norman, Oklahoma with my husband and three children. With a passion for creating imaginary people, writing creates a great outlet. I enjoy reading, running, and anything comedy, along with the occasional donut fix.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Darkness Awakens is my first (and at the moment) only published work. I was inspired by a dream. A reoccurring nightmare kept me on edge until I remembered what my dad always said to me. He told me to write my dreams down before I even get out of bed. I finally decided to do that. The nightmare still wouldn’t stop, so I opened my computer and began to type it exactly how I had dreamt it. Darkness Awakens was born.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure what “unusual’ would be considered amongst authors. I don’t think I do, but you can ask my Best. She could probably spill the beans.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I couldn’t say one author or book specifically has influenced me. L tend to be one of those people that grab a little here and a little there. I do like a lot of the classics. They are classics for a reason. I tend to like YA the most for a quick read. Now that my children can read, I like to have a book that is safe for them to pick up and read.
What are you working on now?
With Darkness Awakens under my belt, I am currently working on book 2 (Kissed by Darkness) of the Darkness series, as well as, dipping my toes in an steamy, erotic romance you are bound to love.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website https://karichaplin.com and facebook (karichaplinbooks) are my most used resources. I have merchandise available on my website and facebook. I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to branch out and offer merchandise. I find it exciting!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advise is to not box yourself in. Selling your work is like selling anything else. It’s a business so get out there and branch out. Get your books on Ingramspark so you are able to get them into brick & mortar stores. Go through all digital options (Draft2Digital is my favorite). Karichaplin.com will post all options under “resources” soon. Network, network, network! Get into author signing events. They can be pricey but they are your “store” for the day. My website offers a list of events. Get out there and get visible!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Hire a PA! It’s impossible to do everything.
What are you reading now?
I am current not reading anything. I am swamped with my own work at the moment. I did just read and reviewed Hunting Jessica by Elizabeth St. John. You can find my review on Goodreads. I love her work! I have been blessed to meet her and become friends with this gal. She is an awesome person.
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish the two I’m currently working on, I have a list on the backburner. I will slowly get through all of those. Elegant Ink Entertainment will get my focus as well.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I had gotten the audiobook from the library and fell in love with it through the narrator. She did a fantastic job on the narration. It is a YA book and not a complicated read. The story is cute and makes for a nice fast read.
