Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written two novels, several short stories- of which a couple have been published in magazines and two radio plays- one for local radio and one for BBC Scotland.
I am a mature woman who, some would say, has been around the block a few times…
I like to draw on my past-all the jobs I have had, from farming- which I was pretty rubbish at, to hotel work and caring, which I hope I wasn’t rubbish at. I also like to write about living in a small community where everyone knows everyone, which can add a little extra to the story. And I hope, that as my novels progress, the readers will come to know and love all the characters, as you do living in a small place.
I like painting pictures of round women, belly dancing, storytelling, stand-up, pantomime and basically any form of performing or showing off as my mother liked to call it.
In the past I have done the Edinburgh Free Fringe, Community Radio and Panto, I have entertained for many charities and several rest homes -pretty much any audience which has sat still long enough and in the process; I have met many characters to draw great stories from.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Downfall of A Belly Dancer is my latest novel and it was inspired by teaching and performing Belly dancing, in a small town.
I taught belly dancing because I loved it so much and wanted to share that love with other women. It is wonderful to watch women who are not comfortable with their bodies and say they ‘can’t dance’ come out of themselves in a class. We had so much fun in the class, and for a while performed as a troupe-it was wonderful- lots of laughing, falling out and making up.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write anywhere, however my favourite place is the Indian restaurant my husband works in. I get free food, the odd wine, and background music that for some reason inspires me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The books which have influenced me …
Darling Buds of May, which should be red during a hot summer to get the full effect, it so sexy, delicious and British.
Just William, should be listened to on audio, red by Martin Jarvis, funny, naughty and old fashion.
Terry Pratchett, what great and funny world he has created- every authors dream.
Catcher in the rye, everyone should read this book when they are alone and lost…
What are you working on now?
A comedy sc fi – A Rebel without a Clue – set in Glasgow about women from another planet who haven’t had much to do with men for a while. It is a comedy for women about women; most way past the age when they should know better. It is the first in a series, of novels.
I am also working on the sequel for Downfall of a belly dancer- Three Takeaways and a Funeral (working title) and you guessed it, there is an Indian restaurant involved.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My website is www.kerrienoor.com and my best method of promoting my books at present is Instrafreebie…
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have fun this is a great time for Indie authors
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
One thing at a time, one sentence, one chapter, one marketing task.
It’s very Buddhist and the only way to approach a novel and life- it works, there is pleasure in completing a task and you don’t feel overwhelmed.
What are you reading now?
Jilly Cooper – Wicked, a friend recommended that I use her idea of writing a glossary of characters at the beginning of the book and I sort got hooked.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to create some funny videos..to promote my stories
What is your favorite book of all time?
Catcher in the Rye- it really hit a spot when I read it-there is someone out there like me after all.
