Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Unfinished? Six. Finished, just the one so far, others in the works. The string of unfinished books behind me was a key driving force behind putting the Work Pray Allow process out there. I was tired of reaching for dreams, but never quite getting there.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Work Pray Allow is kind of like my very own Eat Pray Love, but no budget or travel required. When I was divorced, I running away sounded wonderful, but with an illness-prone rescue pup, credit card bills, and a job search underway, leaving was just not an option. It took me longer to find my answers, but once I did, everything rapidly flowed in. I like to say I took the scenic route–you don’t have to. It just doesn’t have to be so difficult, that is why I wrote it down!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sprinting. I don’t show up at the page every day at the same time, for months on end. I write furiously in condensed time period. I get into the zone and just live there until it’s done. Don’t let anyone ever tell you what a writer’s life should look like. Breaking the mold IS the new normal.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Elizabeth Gilbert, Gabby Bernstein, Sonia Choquette, Jennifer Scott, Ed Rush
What are you working on now?
A cookbook.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is the part I’m still learning. Kindlepreneur has been a wonderful resource, as is Awesome Gang.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read Work Pray Allow, it WILL pull you through. You can and will write this great book! You’ve so got this!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Brooke Castillo talks about seeing large goals as impossible, and then working through them from there. This perspective has changed my life!
What are you reading now?
I just finished Sonia Choquette’s Waking Up in Paris–it’s lovely! I am also in the midst of a 21-day push so following along to Work Pray Allow as I do so. I seriously live by this process!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would rather show that tell. Stay tuned please!
What is your favorite book of all time?
I really adore Jennifer Scott’s Madame Chic. It’s just lovely!
