Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a writer from the hills of Kentucky and a recent graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
My debut thriller, The Keeper of the Crows, appeared on the Preliminary Ballot of the 2016 Bram Stoker Awards in the category of Superior Achievement in a First Novel. It was followed by The Chrononaut, a science fiction/horror story about a haunted time traveler. A Sound in the Dark is my latest thriller.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I came up with the idea for A Sound in the Dark when I was freezing to death. (Well, maybe not literally.) I was camping with friends at the lake, and it was late in the year. I went into the lake on a dare, and that night I was too cold to sleep. As I lay awake, listening to the sounds outside the tent, it dawned on me how exposed and vulnerable we were in the middle of nowhere, and the idea for A Sound in the Dark was born!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to lose track of time after I start writing. I’ll start writing in the morning and suddenly it’s dark outside again. But there’s no better feeling than losing yourself in a story, whether it’s one you’re writing or reading.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was a huge fan of RL Stine’s Goosebumps series as a kid. I’ve tried to emulate his cliffhanger chapter ending approach in my books as a way to keep the reader turning pages.
What are you working on now?
My next book, a western, is scheduled to be released in 2017 by Sunbury Press. Sunbury has also accepted the sequel to The Keeper of the Crows for publication in 2018. I’m also working on a secret project set in the public domain to be announced later this year.
