Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Born in California, I spent time in New York City and Boston before landing in upstate New York. I wrote my first short story when I was five, and haven’t let up much since. Some of my favorite things include goat cheese, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sophie Kinsella, UnREAL, the Oxford comma, and chocolate cookie dough. Not all together.
America’s Next Reality Star is my first published book, with two more to follow within the year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
America’s Next Reality Star was inspired by my best friend’s appearance on a reality show. We spent a lot of time watching the show and preparing for her appearance. I started wondering what type of show I’d want to be on, and The Fishbowl (my fake show) was born.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ve been known to pasteurize eggs so I could shamelessly devour mass quantities of chocolate chip cookie dough while writing. I take my junk food very seriously.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic series is probably my biggest influence. Also early Emily Giffin and early Jane Green. I love light, fun stories about women falling in love.
What are you working on now?
I’ve just turned in the last book in the reality star series, so at the moment I’m working my way through an enormous stack of books I’ve been waiting to read.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. You can’t succeed if you don’t true.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s OK NOT to write every day. Do what works for you. Respect your own process, not what other people say you should do.
What are you reading now?
TELL ME NOT TO GO by Victoria De La O. It’s the second book in the series, and so far I love it every bit as much as the first.
What’s next for you as a writer?
SWEET REALITY will be published on September 5! This was such a fun book to write, and I’m excited to share it with the world.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Confessions of a Shopaholic. Or possibly Jemima J.
