Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a wife, mom, have a day job, and I love to write. I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy for young adults and not so young adults. I write about witches (my personal favorite), angels, demons, Hoodoo, reincarnation, and magic. I’ve written several books and my 5th will soon be published!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Redeemed; 3rd book in The Serendipitous Curse Trilogy – Reborn – Reviled – Redeemed. The series was inspired by my coauthor, Aiden James, on a visit to Savannah Georgia with his wife. He ran the idea by me, and I took it from there. Redeemed is on the editor’s desk right now and will soon be published. If you like dark tales of paranormal romance, Hoodoo, and reincarnation, all set in the beautiful, and second most haunted city in the United States, then pick up Reborn and begin your dark journey into the past.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No particular habits per say, but I do write at a messy desk, in a small room tucked away on the second level of the house. I don’t need beautiful surroundings. Just peace and quiet, with little distraction, oh and a Siamese cat named Syd, on my desk begging for attention.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a collection of over 30 Dragon Lance novels. They’ve been the biggest inspiration to my imagination over the years. Reading the Twilight series, back when it first came out, inspired me to actually craft a story.
What are you working on now?
The Demon’s Wrath is my current work in progress, Book Two in The Eternal Beings Trilogy. Book One; The Devil’s Flower is available anywhere online books are sold and a hard copy can be ordered in any book store. The series is about a battle of good vs evil in the form of angels and demons existing under the guise of an outlaw motorcycle club in Colorado.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media is key to promotion. And Facebook tops the list for me. I have hundreds of writer friends and fans who share my posts. And Facebook parties are a fun, free way to get the word out and have fans participate in a new release. Bookbub is probably the best paid site to get your book in the public eye. The downfalls are, you have to be accepted, and it can be pricey, but well worth it in the end. I once sold over 500 books in one day with a paid ad on Bookbub. And I know people who’ve sold more.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Build a following on Facebook, Google, and Twitter. Join FB groups for writers and promotions. Watch and participate in what other writers do.
And for those of you hoping to one day be published, never give up. I’ve had many rejections from agents and publishers, which is disheartening. Keep searching and eventually you will find the publisher who is the right fit for your work. Most times rejections are given because publishers have certain slots to fill, for instance, they may be looking for a contemporary and you’ve submitted a dystopian. Never take it personally, and move on. And don’t forget about the smaller publishing companies out there. They are more willing to take in new authors than the big guys, and most don’t require you to have an agent.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t write to get rich. Write because you love it, and enjoy the little bits of fame that come with it. If you make money from your writing, then bonus!
That’s basically my own advice 🙂
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Shattered Secrets by Krystal Wade.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing The Demon’s Wrath, then getting started on The Angel’s Retribution (book 3). After I get that series out, I have so many more stories started. I sometimes wish I was two people. I also have a few children’s picture books in my head that I would like to get out there.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Outside of my Dragon Lance collection, my favorite book is A Moment in Time by Bertrice Small. It’s a historical romance, with a surprise element of magic. The book has also been one of my inspirations.
