Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Regina Timothy and I come from Kenya. Full Circle is my debut novel and I’m hoping to write many more human interest stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is a contemporary fiction tale of friendship, family, and hope. The book follows three women living in the U.S and the relationships they create.
There are many issues influencing our world. This past week gun violence in school have taken centre stage, with the Florida school that left 14 students and 3 teachers dead and injured more than a dozen others being of particular interest. EveryTown.org pegs school shootings in the U.S to e 17 in 2018 alone, and 290 since 2013. I wanted to write stories that highlight such hot-button topics.
Full Circle brings to light bullying, school shooting, terrorism, the war in the Middle East among other sensitive topics.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I consider myself a nocturnal. Most of my inspiration hit late at night or very early in the morning. A huge part of Full circle was written in the middle of the night.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I consider myself an devoted reader of all genres and I’ve enjoyed the style of different authors.
Some of these authors include Khaled Hosseini, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
These are a few of the authors I greatly admire.
What are you working on now?
I’m hoping to write a sequel to Full Circle. I’m also working on several other projects and hoping to be done with at least one project by end of the year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m finding Goodreads to be a good place to find potential readers and reviewers for my work. I’ve also found Blog roll on reviewers blogs to be helpful in finding other potential reviewers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Instead of talking about writing start writing, and keep writing. It’s the only way to improve – writing is a constant work in progress.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t be afraid to go for or ask for what you want however outrageous it might be. The worst thing that can happen is to be told no.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Emma of Iran by T. Marion Dodge
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m looking to get a bigger platform for my writing – get my work to a wider audience. That means more marketing and networking for me.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Ever since I lay my eyes on The River and the Source by Kenyan writer Margaret Ogola as a young girl I’ve always loved that book. The book follows three generations of women in post- colonial Kenya and seeks to highlight the roles women played during that period and how these roles gradually evolved into what they are today.
