Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Ryan Burke and I live in New York City. I have written one book to date and have two more in the making. I have been writing lyrics for at least 5 years and have moved into books! I enjoy all different types of disciplines and knowledge that life has to offer and am always looking to expand and improve myself and my community!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled “Lessons for my Son” and it stemmed from my role as godfather to my niece and nephew. This assignment made me think of what I would teach a child about god and about life. Although I do not yet have a child of my own, I plan to share this with them when I do!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I would say that I do. “Lessons for my Son” is written almost as if it were poetry. I enjoy abstract formats and hope to mimic them in my writings.
I look forward to being able to write a book to the urban youth which would require slang grammar which would be presumably “unusual.”
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Tao te Ching is probably my biggest influence! I am not aware of authors specifically, sorry authors!
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a book titled “The Conditional Acceptance” which portrays concepts I learned from contract law, that can be applied to life to reduce feelings of hopelessness in an increasingly established world.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am new to it all but Kindle / Amazon is hopefully a great resource!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be true with your writings. Focus less on the format and how it will be viewed and focus more on transcribing the raw substance of your work.
I experienced from writing lyrics; simple rhymes are empty but true expression can be appreciated by any party.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stay near the Center
What are you reading now?
I am currently finishing a book called “Overachievement” by John Elliot PhD
What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to get my current book out to the public and provide some future pieces that will uplift and educate people to give them a more wholesome experience in life.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Tao te Ching
