Orphaned and enslaved, it will take more than courage to deliver young Cedric from evil’s grasp. A riddle, a promise, an unlikely friendship might do the trick, or get him killed.
From very different worlds, sixteen-year-old Cedric of Flanders and twenty-two-year-old Pierce of England have no reason to cross paths—until one fateful day, a powerful countess commands Cedric to escort her to England in search of Pierce. Unbeknown to the boy, the countess is a scheming vampire and Pierce is prophesied to be the next master of her clan. She stands to gain untold influence and power were she to make Pierce a vampire and control him. But turning him proves easier than controlling him. Embroiled in the countess’s wake of death and destruction, Pierce and Cedric form an unlikely alliance and embark on a perilous quest to end her wickedness.

I was born and raised in northern California. I’ve lived in several places in California, including San Diego and Los Angeles. I taught English as a second language in Japan for two years. That was an amazing experience!
While at University of California, San Diego, I co-hosted a weekly poetry reading at a coffee shop in Ocean Beach and wrote my first science fiction novel. In Japan, I drank a lot of sake and wrote a lot of short stories, a novel, and a sociocultural hypothesis that explains how a warring Japan became a peace loving culture and arguably the safest society on earth shortly following the end of WW II: http://carltonalear.wix.com/kawaiism#%21. Admittedly, needs more work…
In Okayama, I wrote a steampunk novel called 893 Crows. It’s about a post-graduate student with extraordinarily quick reflexes and sword fighting skills who gets mixed up with the mob (yakuza) in a post-apocalyptic Japan.
The Hover: Cedric Book 1, released in summer 2017. It’s a Gothic horror novel about a sixteen-year-old boy’s struggle to survive in a world rife with monsters and a young man’s struggle not to become one. I’m currently working on two projects: The Hover, Cedric Book 2, and a collection of short stories.
When I’m not writing, I’m reading, traveling, wine tasting, and perusing used book stores for 1st edition treasures.
