Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been fortunate to have lived a very interesting life so far. I love to write and currently have 4 novels available on amazon. For many years I worked as a songwriter and spent a fair amount of time in Nashville. I’ll always love songwriting, but my passion is writing novels. I’m an avid motorcyclist and ride my Harley through the canyons of the Los Angeles mountains almost every day. I’ve been blessed with 2 beautiful children, a son and daughter, both teenagers now. I live with a fabulously multi-talented woman in Los Angeles with our dog “Dio.” Besides writing, I also work in the field of addiction treatment and I find this to be very rewarding.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “Dirt.” It’s a very gritty novel about an undercover police officer. I have no idea what inspired it. The creative process mystifies me. I’m always looking for great stories and when one comes along I run with it. That’s what happened with “Dirt.”
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I spend a lot of time preparing to write, simply thinking, outlining my thoughts and storyboarding. When I write, I tend to binge write. I like to fully submerge and put in long hours.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Cormac McCarthy, Elmore Leonard, John Fante, Bukowski, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Dickens, Stephen King, there’s too many to list.
I was very influenced by “No Country For Old Men,” and “Papillon”
What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing a YA novel entitled “Top.”
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It’s a little early in the game for me to answer this. I’ve always been a very productive creative writer, but an extremely poor businessman. I’m trying to change that.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read tons of great books. Learn from the greats.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is short, do what you love.
What are you reading now?
Striptease by Carl Hiaasen, Cities of The Plain by Cormac (again), The Snopes Trilogy by Faulkner and Freaky Deaky by Elmore Leonard.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on “Dirt II.”
What is your favorite book of all time?
No Country For Old Men. Though it was an interesting story, what really grabbed me was the way Cormac told it. Seeing a writer completely manhandle the English language like that… It changed many things for me.
