Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, my name is Danny Tuttle and my first book is The Prophet Paradox. I’m a a retired chemical engineer and college physics teacher, an enthusiastic amateur researcher of ancient manuscripts, and an Air Force and Coast Guard veteran.
I live with my wife and daughter in Los Angeles, California, work from home, occasionally wear pants, and travel daily, via the internet machine, to such places as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas in Mogao, the Antarctic Icecube Neutrino Observatory, Hobbiton village in New Zealand, and the distant galaxies of the Hubble Deep Field.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Prophet Paradox was inspired by supernova 1987A, the first supernova in 400 years to be visible to the naked eye. The supernova was detected by neutrinos (a type of subatomic particle) before it became visible. I realized I could write a story about a scientist who detects neutrinos from a supernova and then predict the appearance of the star before it actually appears in the sky. The scientist could then be mistaken for a prophet.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so. I just write, then reread, then rewrite most of it, then look up 27 things, then rewrite again, etc.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Zelazny, George RR Martin, Neil Gaiman
What are you working on now?
Not another book. Not yet. Still promoting the Prophet Paradox. Promoting takes twice as long as actually writing the book. And I’m a new self-published author, so I have no idea what I’m doing.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon KDP, Smashwords, websites like this one.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get discouraged. When you finish your book and self-publish (I assume), don’t let your book die in obscurity. Use websites like this one. There’re hundreds of them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t judge someone till you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.
Because then you’re a mile away, and they have no shoes.
What are you reading now?
Locke Lamora series by Scott Lynch
What’s next for you as a writer?
Another book, Someday. After a lot of promoting of The Prophet Paradox.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Lord of the Rings
