Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Canadian born and bred, and a lifelong dreamer, I began writing at an early age and can’t recall a time when I wasn’t creating in some artistic form. My life has had several on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write. In the past half dozen years, I’ve released books in all lengths and genres, and it’s something I hope to continue to do for many more years. A visit to my website will show the diversity of what is currently available, as well as all my social site links, etc.
At this point in time, combining my fan fiction writing days with my professional writing contracts, I’ve probably had approx. 500 stories and novels published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is actually a very short story called Within The Mist that was inspired by several things all at once – my love and fascination with Venice, Italy – carnival time there – plus the music of Italian singer Riccardo Foresi, which was my soundtrack while I wrote and rewrote the story – and a lifelong love of Gaston LeRoux’s Phantom of the Opera tale.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so, but one person’s normal is another person’s odd, so who really knows? I do know I can’t sit down to write without planning and plotting, so perhaps that is a bit unusual. I tend to toss out a lot of random thoughts via Twitter and on Facebook that people later tell me should be in books, so that is odd, too, maybe?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Gone With The Wind, because it’s epic, romantic, and so well written.
The Sword of Shannara, because it introduced me to the world of fantasy novels.
CJ Cherryh’s Morgaine books because they showed me how to create remarkable and strong women warriors.
Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, because they’re brilliant, and combine romance and sensual dark fantasy to perfection.
Sherlock Holmes, the stories that taught me how to pay attention to the details in everything!
All have influenced aspects of my writing in various ways.
What are you working on now?
My first ever series, entitled The BlackHawk Agency. Oddly, this series began as an idea for a very short flash fiction, then it took on a life of it’s own. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to it, and notes made on all the characters, and it’s looking like a minimum of 6 books at this point, with the likelihood of it becoming even more.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
In recent years, I’ve discovered that the combination of blog and Twitter, linked to various social network sites has produced the best presence I could have. My website is a showcase, but to get people interested in the books, blogging seems to have been most effective. Interacting via social tools is essential because it allows readers to know you, and when they become your friends, they also become loyal readers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write, learn, write more… learn more….
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write, learn, write more… learn more….
What are you reading now?
At the moment, Buried by Elizabeth Goddard, and a number of Writing Guides and craft books.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to tell stories that touch people, and make them think. If you can take a reader on an adventure, be in falling in love, or escaping into a fantasy world, you’ve made them smile and feel happy. I can’t think of a better reason than that to write stories. When I hear from readers and they tell me they fell in love with my heroes or heroines, that’s the best compliment in the world! So, essentially, more and I hope better stories.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Toss up between Sherlock Holmes and Gone With The Wind, really…
