Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
This is my 1st book series that I have written. I am writing a second book titled, “Soaring to Greatness.” This will be a discipleship book for kids in the same age group as my 1st book (10-15 years old)
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book series is “Reaching New Heights.” it is a 365 day devotional for kids going through the difficult ages of puberty. I wrote the books because a few years back, I was teaching kids in Middle School and young high schoolers prayer and discipleship and I was getting bombarded by life questions that these kids were experiencing for the first time. I mentioned to the kids at that time that I will try and find some books that address these issues in a biblical manner and I could not find any. It made me think that this age is probably one of the most difficult times of a person’s life in regards to change in body, hormones, relationships and attitude and there is no spiritual guidance books anywhere to be found. This inspired me to write the 365 day devotional on addressing these difficult life issues with answers from God’s Word.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write like I teach. So the wording in these books is done in language that a kid between the ages of 10-15 can understand.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am a pastor of a small church in Perris, CA. So i normally read books that pertain to adult issues. In regards to this subject and this age group, there is not really any authors or books that have influenced me. My biggest influencers for these books were my own kids that were going through middle school at the same time that I wrote the books. I saw firsthand what their struggles were and how they reacted and it gave me the knowledge needed to come up with all the topics for the books.
What are you working on now?
As I mentioned, I am writing a 2nd book on discipleship for kids between the ages of 10-15. It is called “Soaring to Greatness.” It is a step-by-step guide book in how to disciple these kid’s friends and neighbors on discipleship
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a website called “reaching new heights books.com.” I advertise primarily on social media in Facebook and I will be starting an ad campaign in Instagram as well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
DON’T QUIT!! Writing a 365 day devotional is tedious work and there were times that I wanted to stop. But when you have a passion for a subject matter and you know if you can help just one person through this effort, then it is well worth it. And always allow God to lead you in your writing. I always pray before writing another page in order for God to be the true author of these books.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same as above (don’t quit, always pray etc…). Also, write books for the right reasons and not for the worldly reasons!
What are you reading now?
I do many bible studies so the book I read the most today is the bible. I have a couple books by Tim Keller and John McArthur that I am reading as well.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to finish my second book on discipleship and then possibly look into writing a 3rd book for high school seniors and young college kids on helping them write resumes/doing job interviews in order for them to get the job they want. I was a businessman/business owner for over 30 years before going into the ministry. I would love to help kids find the right jobs that they desire.
What is your favorite book of all time?
THE BIBLE by far. I love End Times. I study it daily. So any book that discusses End Times and Bible Prophecy truly peeks my interests
