Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a former teacher who quit her day job to pursue her dream-writing. I’m using this time to focus on developing my writing and my platform. I’m so thankful to have this opportunity; I don’t want to waste a single minute of it.
I’ve written four books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Captain Hook: Villain or Victim?
I really enjoy reading retold or fractured fairy tales. After reading The True Story of the Three Pigs, I thought it would be fun to write one about Captain Hook and it was a blast. I giggled my way through many of the scenes. The main character is so ridiculous at times.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to find a soundtrack for most of the stories I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
J.K. Rowling, Lloyd Alexander, Eric Carle, Kevin Henkes
What are you working on now?
I started another fractured fairy tale for the online publication I write for, Coffee House Writers. It’s titled The Enchanted Press. The main character is interviewing other fairy tale characters who’ve been victims of crimes (ex. 3 Bears had a home invasion).
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is a tough one for me to answer as I’m still figuring it out. But, I’d have to say your website it pretty awesome. Thanks so much for supporting authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, read, write, repeat. Join a writer’s group and find a good editor. And, write for yourself; write the story you want to read. Keep at it. Anything that’s worth it is a lot of work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Use an umbrella when it rains outside so you don’t get wet.
What are you reading now?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It’s probably my hundreth time.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a few manuscripts I’d like to develop more and then publish. I’ll also continue writing on my educational blog, Lemon Drop Literary, interviewing authors on my website and writing for Coffee House Writers.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Harry Potter Series. It’s a package deal.
