Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey there! I’m Erynn, a new fantasy author. I have an infinite fascination with Japanese culture, mythology, language, and history, and use that knowledge as inspiration to create fantasy worlds. Mental health awareness is also important to me and it’s often a theme I portray in my stories.
Although I have written many books so far, I have published only one novella. I have another in the pipeline to be published in July 2019.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent and only publication is my novella, Ramshackled. It and the Yokai Calling series are prequels to my novel-in-progress, Path of the Warlock, so you could say that is my source of inspiration. The novella explores the circumstances that led to the mental state of the main characters, Hidekazu and Masanori Genshu, during the novel and the coming series.
I started writing the novella series because as I was writing Path of the Warlock, the characters were uncooperative and took on different personalities than I initially envisioned. Realizing that the form they took on their own was their true selves, I started exploring the events that turned Hidekazu and Masanori into the disturbed, powerful people they had become.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the sequel to Ramshackled, titled Sleep Demons. There are just some tiny changes to make before its publication in July. Once that’s finished, I’ll be moving onto the third novella in the Yokai Calling series, Twisted Sight.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading the Study series by Maria V. Snyder. Even though I only started it a few days ago, I’m completely entranced by the magnificent world and characters. It’s always a pleasure to read something so enthralling; I hope I can write something that will inspire the same response to other readers!
What is your favorite book of all time?
My favourite book is Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff—narrowly succeeding Nevernight, the book preceding it. If you’re a fan of assassins and epic fantasy, you’ll probably like it, too.
