Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a multi-artist who grew up drawing, spraying graffiti, recording music, and writing and directing short films. After growing up in the juvenile justice system, I became a licensed social worker to counsel teenagers.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My book, LOVE IS A MENTAL ILLNESS, allowed me to combine my two loves; psychology and art. I look at love through a psychological lens and examine my unhealthy relationships. True stories come together in the end like a novella.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One habit that may sound unusual is that I often write in the shower. I use a waterproof notepad. The sound and feel of water helps me relax. The isolation allows me to take a break from the world, so I’m able to think clearly and freely. A lot of my ideas went “down the drain” before I purchased a waterproof notepad.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Charles Bukowski and Pablo Neruda are two of my favorite poets. I also read a lot of non-fiction and clinical research regarding psychology.
What are you working on now?
I’m completing the sequel to LOVE IS A MENTAL ILLNESS. I’m also almost finished with another poetry collection.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve found a lot of engagement and support on Instagram.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Put your work in as many places as you can, but be mindful of exhausting yourself. It’s a balance you must find. I also suggest you start a newsletter right away.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for yourself first. The right readers are out there.
What are you reading now?
HAM ON RYE by Charles Bukowski
What’s next for you as a writer?
My short-term future will primarily be split between finishing a few projects and promoting my poetry collections. I also enjoy being involved in the community and meeting other authors through social media.
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is impossible to answer.
