Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m originally from Louisiana but currently reside in North Carolina with my amazing husband and two cats. I’m a big fan of the outdoors and try to go for hikes or camping whenever I’m not tied to desk for work. I’ve written eleven full-length novels as of Jan 2019, and several shorter stories.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Tough Shift. It all started with an idea to get my characters trapped on a spaceship, which is a random goal for a paranormal author who specializes, I suppose. Still, I took it and ran with it. I love making my characters work for their HEA. I think it makes it more satisfying in the end.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Probably not. I refer to my cats as my “furry editors” but I’m not sure that’s unusual, given that most authors have a cat or two.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
In one way or another, I’ve been influenced by everything I’ve ever taken the time to read, whether it was Tolkien or Gaiman. I’ve always enjoyed reading fantasy, which I believe is why I can’t help but introduce magic into whatever world I’m writing.
What are you working on now?
I’m tackling a new sub-series dealing with federal agents in the paranormal world. The concept is different from what I usually do, and I’m looking forward to challenging myself. Hopefully, all the procedural tv shows I’ve binged will help me out.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m most at ease with finding groups where I think I fit in and making friends. I’m not the best at shameless self-promotion, but I love chatting with other readers.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing. Don’t get discouraged if your first publication isn’t the hit you expected it to be. The real success is in longevity and consistency.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stop over-thinking it!
If I were left to my own devices, I would second-guess myself into a box and stay there forever. I’m lucky to have author buddies that will give me a kick in the pants to motivate me to take risks and stop sitting around.
What are you reading now?
I am currently *obsessed* with everything by Tessa Dare. I’m working my way through her Spindle Cove series.
I’m also focused on finishing Fate’s Fools by Ophelia Bell. It’s hard to read too much paranormal romance when I’m writing, since I don’t want to accidentally steal an idea. But while I’m between projects, I plan to binge this series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Endless possibilities are in my future and I can’t wait to encounter them. That’s all I know.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Hero and the Crown. It’s a classic, and possibly cliché, but it left an impression with me as a young girl. I like to think I’m stronger and braver for having embraced that book.
