Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written 8 (all in various stages of publication at this time) although I’ve only started publishing them for sale. I have another 4 that are partially written and a dozen or so that are in the concept stage.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Rebellion Book I: Book of Quay.
I’m into history. I found the Qing Dynasty interesting – particular the tensions between the Manchu ruling class and the Han majority. Also, I’m a big fan of Chinese movies (especially martial arts movies) but they never seem to end well when the characters choose love or passion over duty. I wanted to go the opposite direction. (laugh)
There’s a lot of sex in this book but I don’t feel like it’s just gratuitous…ok so maybe some of it is. (laugh) I still like to believe that because our two lovers in this story are so mentally and emotionally scarred that it’s sometimes the only way they can communicate with each other – through physicality.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just let whatever wants to come out come out. Afterwards, I tweek and tweek and tweek….and tweek. (grin) Sometimes I will write down key events or key conversations that I 100% want to happen at some point with no real idea of where or how in the story it’s going to happen.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can’t say.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a supernatural horror story right now – Cabello.
Don’t worry. I won’t try to sneak it on here. (laugh)
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still trying to figure that out. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn’t really invested much time, effort or money into marketing (translation: like maybe 5 hours of lackadaisical effort in the whole year +). I’ve had a book published for over a year now and trust me, my sales show how much effort I put into getting it out there. (laugh)
This is my first real push to get my brand and my work out into the world. I’ve done more work in the last 2 days than I have in the last year plus. It’s still a lot of learning and discovery and especially trial and error. Maybe by the end of this year, I’ll have an answer.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what works for you.
What are you reading now?
Theoretically I’m reading Cabello.
Hey! It’s not going to edit itself. (laugh)
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to get Cabello out there. I’m pushing for the end of this month, but it may be in February.
After, it’s off to work on M – another of my horror stories.
What is your favorite book of all time?
An Underground Education by Richard Zacks hands down. Oddly enough, I read way more non-fiction that fiction. I especially enjoy history and weird/quirky facts.
