About Heart of Swine
“The last swine left on Earth, Captain Grunter, is on a quest for justice.
With the support of his improbable companions, he delves into the inescapable nightmares of a late-capitalist mediascape characterised by sensationalised poverty, fetish consumerism and glamourised environmental catastrophes.
Through the lies and riddles of the villains he faces, the pig superhero begins his philosophical journey of what it means to be more-than-bacon.”

Freddy F. Fonseca is an author, playwright and filmmaker whose work portrays the anomie of a society anaesthetized by empty ideals and materialist obsessions. Their dystopian first novel, Heart of Swine was, appropriately enough, released amid a global pandemic (thanks to Obex Publishing). It grabs some of this century’s favourite disfunctions and takes them to a surreal, yet darkly logical, conclusion. The reviews are in, and the consensus is a decidedly thumbs-up emoji.
Grown on the sunny side of Italy and transplanted into London, Fonseca assures us they are definitely, assuredly, 100% still young and vibrant. They graduated in Creative Writing and English Literature from London Metropolitan University and topped that off with a sexy little master’s in Environment, Politics and Society from UCL. It was around this time (still uncannily fresh-faced) that Fonseca began writing sci-fi and fantastical speculative fiction whose trademark is startling leftfield imagery underpinned by unsettlingly well observed social commentary. But they’re not trying to be a downer – Fonseca wants their writing to provoke, yes, but also inspire and empower. After all, literature can change the world. Can’t it?
