Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello there! My name is Jameson C. Montgomery. I am born and raised in California, lived here my whole life. What’s funny is I cannot tolerate the heat. When the temperature drops in the Fall I am extremely cheerful. However, the hot weather doesn’t stop me from taking my notepad to the beach working on my next book idea. My focus is on writing children’s books. I feel the most positive around children, animals, and the elderly. Children teach you to be a kid and enjoy life, animals show you how to love unconditionally, and the elderly teach you gratitude and how difficult things could be.
I have written a total of 5 books. 3 are out in the internet world and 2 are in my pc awaiting the gruelling process of producing a successful book. I enjoy what I do and would do it for the rest of my life.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Jay Monty’s Good Health Book: Importance of Water. It explains the importance of great health habits without the boring blah blah blah. It gives kids a head start on maintaining great health. Kids usually relate health topics as boring these days. I have yet to see a children’s book outline health topics in a fun, juvenile way for them to understand. What’s even better is that they are actually learning! The Jay Monty’s Good Health Book series has actually received a great deal of momentum. It was trending at #1 on Amazon!
What inspired this series is that I am now the Father of an amazing two-year-old boy who I absolutely adore. I remember during the first year I constantly gave him water during the hot summer months in California. I was basically his personal Adam Sandler from ‘Water Boy’. This inspired me to say hey, why don’t I create a children’s book about, let’s see, umm, water! I expect to release the third instalment this year
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to put my earphones in my ear while playing some tunes as I write-away! Fellow Authors I’ve spoken to, think that is completely distracting and punishing to their writing content. They tend to start writing a remix to the song they are listening to, I guess.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am inspired by motivational content surprisingly. Authors like Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, and the late Maya Angelou. I take knowledge given from these Authors and convert it into content that a child can understand. We all need to motivated in our lives. Plain and simple.
What are you working on now?
I am working on yet another book. I will give away the name to all you amazing people for conducting this interview. The title of my current book, that’s going through production, is called Jay Monty’s “God In Me.” It gives children a sense of finding their inner strength through God. It depicts radiant illustrations and examples of how nothing is too big to accomplish, even in their fresh young life. You do not have to be religious for children to get some meaningful information from this book. God has been a major influence in my projects.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I discover a great deal of traffic on my website and Facebook page. I offer many games, chat rooms and fun on my website. Bringing back the 90s with the chat rooms, oh how I missed those days!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep producing content that you feel passionate about. Do not write to make money. Write to leave a legacy. You want your book to end up in bedrooms, classrooms, and libraries around the world. Never write to trend on social media because you will last two seconds out there, tough love. Discover your identity and do not get distracted by the latest fad.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Feel comfortable talking to yourself for a while.
Basically, this means that the content you put out into the world is competing with thousands of achieved writers. People will discover you when it’s time. Keep going.
What are you reading now?
I am reading, “You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty!” by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj. Ironically, this book is also about the importance of water. I guess I should consider being a water boy huh?
What’s next for you as a writer?
Way down the line I’d like to create videos speaking to children. Add my flavour of motivation but through audio and visual content. Kids wander onto Youtube these days with the access to the internet. Why not create kid motivation like we adults have motivation.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That is a tough one. Geez! well, I would say my favorite book of all time would have to be “Live Your Dreams” by Les Brown. It has inspired me to write outside of my 9 to 5. This is what I rather do with my time, but in order for that to happen, I must continue to strive for success.
