Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of one novel, The Wandering Land. I’m also the author and producer of one completed audio drama podcast called SPINES, which was also recently published as a book of collected transcripts. I have two other audio dramas currently in production.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Wandering Land was inspired by my love of fairytales and folklore, especially those originating in Ireland. That love of fairytales combined with a setting near and dear to my heart, the desert of Southern Arizona. Those two environments and their different cultural traditions come together in The Wandering Land, which is a story that deals with how the preexisting narratives we receive from the surround culture shape our actions and choices.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I only write at home and have never been able to write in coffee shops or other public spaces.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
My top influences are Graham Joyce, Jonathan Carroll, Caitlin Kiernan, and other authors whose work focuses on moments in which the supernatural or fantastic intrudes upon daily life.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on two audio dramas, Mirrors and The Six Disappearances of Ella McCray. I’m also working on a follow up novel to The Wandering Land.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Goodreads.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Persist.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Wear sunscreen.
What are you reading now?
Right now I’m reading Nicky Drayden’s Prey of Gods, a great near-future sci-fi taking place in South Africa.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m currently dividing my attention between one novel and two audio dramas, so there’s a lot going on.
What is your favorite book of all time?
American Gods, Desolation Road, The Drowning Girl, To Say Nothing of the Dog, and Vellum would all be high on the list.
