Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a husband, father of three, writer, singer-songwriter/musician, radio personality for a Christian FM station, a lover of truth, and a philosopher. So far, I have published one book, The 40 Day Fire: Burning Away All That Does Not Resemble Your Destiny. However, I have written several other books that will be released in the near future. These books will be released through One Plan Media LLC/One Plan Media Publishing Group.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The 40 Day Fire: Burning Away All That Does Not Resemble Your Destiny. The inspiration behind the book comes from a personal desire to become all that I can in this life. I am passionate about using each of the gifts, talents, and opportunities given to me and equally passionate about encouraging others to do the same thing.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One of my most unusual writing habits is writing several books at the same time. It is hard for me to focus on one book at a time because I have so many ideas and I want to get them all out! As a songwriter, the same applies in the music realm as well. I’m constantly jotting ideas down in either a word document or a notes app on my phone.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some books that have influenced me the most in my lifetime are Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson; The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel; Revelations: There’s A Light After the Lime by Mason Betha; Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki; Black Boy by Richard Wright; The Secret by Rhonda Byrne; Defining Moments In Black History: Reading Between the Lies by Dick Gregory; The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone; The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley and Malcolm X; Pagan Christianity by Frank Viola and George Barna; and too many other books to count!
What are you working on now?
The next book I’m working on is a fiction romance/poetry book with my wife. I’m excited about it!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word of mouth has proved to be best for me. When I’m just talking about my book, not even trying to sell it, but letting my passion about it shine through when speaking with others about it. I have found that to be the best way to promote.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you are serious about writing then take it seriously. Invest in your writing and make it a priority. If people try to discourage you or point you in a different direction, just imagine what your life would be like had not your favorite authors written the best books that most inspired you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Do not try to re-invent the wheel!”
What are you reading now?
Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine
What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal is two-fold: 1. Continue to write new material 2. Inspire other writers who I know to have something unique and worthwhile to say to write and release their first book this year.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible. No other book has inspired me as much as the Bible. It never gets old and I learn something new from reading it every time.
