Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m from a small town in middle Tennessee, where I’ve lived for all twenty-three years of my life. I’ve been to quite a few places, though. I’ve loved books since I was little, thanks to my grandma, and have wanted to write my own stories since high school. It took me a few years to get to that point. I’ve only published one so far, but it won’t be the last!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s called Sink or Swim, and it’s the first in a series called The Rose Chronicles. It started from my love of stories with lots of adventure and quests then it fused with an interest in pirates, and off it went from there. It took plenty of drafts, revisions, and edits before I felt anywhere near confident enough to say it was time to move forward. Now that I have, I couldn’t be happier and I plan to keep improving as time goes on.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have several that I admire but two of my biggest would be Brent Weeks for his Night Angel Trilogy and Ari Berk for The Undertaker Trilogy. Each of them showcased the importance of relationship between characters. Berk also has it where I feel like I find something new each time I reread his series.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the sequel to Sink or Swim, and I’m tinkering with another series I would like to start before too long.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do it for yourself and what you believe it means.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your book will be someone’s favorite. It’s helped me push through a lot when self-doubt was piling on.
What are you reading now?
I’m actually looking to finish up a few series that I’ve been searching for.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m looking to get the sequel out for Sink or Swim in the next year or so. As well as continuing to learn and improve all around, I’m going to focus on more efficient descriptive writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
At the moment, Death Watch by Ari Berk.
