Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love all things Gothic! I studied English Literature at University of Maryland where I developed a passion for Victoriana, its elegant macabre, its dark and brooding, Byronic anti-heroes and the complex, intelligent heroines who fall for them. It was during my Study Abroad at University of London, while visiting Jane Austen’s town of Bathe, when I first immersed in the moody and romantic setting of so many beloved novels, the decadent architecture, the rolling hills, the whispers in the wind of the dark forests, and the ancient pagan lore. When not writing dark paranormal romance, I can be found homesteading, homeschooling, or attending musicals, ballet, opera, concerts, museums and paranormal shows. kjdevoir.com
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wanted to write a dark paranormal wolf shifter romance about an old-money heroine and a new-money anti-hero being thrown together under mysterious circumstances in small-town Southern Florida. I wanted to push boundaries with a Byronic character like Shaw MacRath (Brutal Intentions, Kings of the Order). Currently there are 3 books in this series, as well as a Box Set.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I must be surrounded by gothic things = happy 💞
What kind of "gothic things" ? I've got a black candelabra on my desk, a hanging bat, a gothic doll, and in my nearby secretary desk I've got a whole bunch of other inspirations, like my canvas art of Peter Steele (Typo Negative, my favorite gothic doom metal band).

What are you working on now?
I'm pushing even more boundaries with my anti-hero, Xavier, in Savage Intentions, the next set in the Kings of the Order series, and the story takes on a darker tone. It will be out soonish.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon is a big deal in the e-book industry, so I have an Author's page on there. I also use my own website (with proper SEO put in place to help with visibility in search results). Also Kobo books has great ongoing promotions for authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
For story structure/templates and organizing and visualizing your novel, Scribner is great. Also, use a book formatting services like Atticus or Vellum and save yourself a TON of time and headaches trying to format your own books for the various publishing sites.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write the first drafts with the door closed (meaning, turn off your editing and marketing brain), and write your second drafts with door open (with editing and marketing in mind). I read that bit of advice in Stephen Kings book On Writing
What are you reading now?
Anne Rice's "Violin"
What is your favorite book of all time?
Bronte's Wuthering Heights and Bram Stoker's Dracula are tied.
