Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a British author from the NE of England who enjoys nothing more than dreaming up steamy plots all day and every day!
With my husband’s support I resigned from my job in December 2016 and have been writing full time since then, focusing on bringing my five book Definition series to the market.
I got the inspiration after reading a ‘cougar’ book (younger man, older woman) but I added a few extra twists and pretty soon one book turned into five plus a couple of freebies I give away to my newsletter subscribers.
I used to enjoy reading for pleasure and cardio workouts, but more often than not find myself reading for ten minutes before going to sleep and skipping the workouts in favour of writing.
Still … it’s a fab life!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Definition of Craving – Book two of the Definition series.
I wrote Definition of Stripped but my characters’ story wasn’t complete so Craving came along. The Definition series consists of a prequel and 2 x volume sets – Stripped and Craving go together, as do Redemption and Absolution.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I’m aware of! I just open my laptop and get on with the job.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I wish I could remember the author who wrote the cougar book!
I’d say she influenced me enough to think up a plot and run with it.
What are you working on now?
Absolution – the last book in the series. I’m 51k words through it and intend to release in October so I’d better get a wiggle on.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Awesome Gang, of course.
I am trialling a PA and a promotion company right now, plus a keen reader has been kind enough to set up a street team so I am interested to see whether all of this extra help will nudge the sales figures.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes – don’t go straight from idea to writing in fifteen minutes’ flat.
Learn about the construction of a novel, where the pinch points should go, find out about the inciting incident, and if it’s in the right place. Teach yourself rise and fall. Redundant statements (I once said ‘a bag of frozen ice’, for example, luckily my editing software picked it up!).
I’d also urge anyone thinking about doing it to start a Facebook/Twitter/Instagram account in your author name as soon as possible – and build up your followers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write every day otherwise you become distant from the story.
I think that was Steven King.
What are you reading now?
I’m doing a critique right now for an author friend.
What’s next for you as a writer?
When the Definition series is published I am thinking of a PNR story and also doing erotic shorts in a different name.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh, that’s a toughie. I have favourites all the time but then something else comes along.
I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite book of all time BUT I did read the Fifty Shades series several times. Same with the ‘Disaster’ series by Jamie McGuire. I do love tortured souls!
