Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an indie-pubbed author romantic suspense of two series; the Deadly series of six books and the Saddle Creek series of 5 books, plus another stand alone book. They are all stand alone as well. The Deadly series pertains primarily to human sex trafficking and the lessons every woman should know to protect themselves from this horrendous event. The Saddle Creek series is a small town romance but with big town issues. I also have a story, A Cowboy’s Sweet Spot, in the Romances on the Range anthology.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Moonlight Kisses and Mugshots is the Sheriff’s love story of the four main male characters in the earlier books. Each of them are in each book but they each then have their own story. I was inspired to write about this premise of four boys, close friends all through school, and then after school they all went their own ways in life, one goes to college, one joins the military, one buys the horse ranch he grew up on, and the other is elected the local Sheriff. They are romantic suspense so there are many twists and turns and just enough sex to keep the reader turning the page.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m write in my living room in a recliner, I’m a pantster so everything is character driven. Some days there’s a murder, another day the couple spends the day in bed. I never know until I sit down to write what’s going to happen to any of the characters but every book has a happy ever after.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The late Kathleen Woodiwiss with her historical detail as well as the late Johanna Lindsey where each book took the reader to another part of the world. The suspense interest comes from Lisa Scottoline, Lisa Unger, Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben, Andrew Gross, and Sandra Brown I tried writing just romance and there just wasn’t enough going on and very boring so I had to add a suspense theme.
What are you working on now?
The fifth book of the Saddle Creek series, Moonlight Kisses and MugShots will be released August 25th and I have final edits to do on that and then I’m in the process of writing the sixth book in the series about another couple who are secondary characters and now have their own story. And a second Saddle Creek Christmas Trilogy is in the works, where the Sheriff will join the other 3 men and their families with his love interest as well as three other couples who have k=joined the group via secondary characters.
Also, I have two “worlds” I want to write in; Susan Stoker’s and Desiree Holt’s. I’ve made some notes on those stories and I hope they’ll be ready to publish next year.
And I have another book partially written, Deadly Intuition, for the Deadly series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do alot with Facebook; I have a readers group, Lorelei’s Lovelies and in mid-May I started an online book club: Lorelei’s Romantic Suspense Book Club. I feature a different author each week; we meet via zoom Wednesday 7-8:30 pm est and the guest author share his or hers writing journey. So far, I’ve had a lot of fun and learned from the best, i.e. Catherine Bybee, Desiree Holt, Eliza March, and I have scheduled for July and August, Kendra Elliott, Peggy Jaeger, Loretta C. Rogers, Shirley Jump, BJ Daniels, just to name a few. It’s authors meeting authors and authors meeting readers. Lots of Q&A and funny stories.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing, don’t look at reviews, keep writing. Sit at the computer and type what’s in your heart, that deepest emotion you’ve felt from your own life experiences is the same/similar to what your hero/heroine will feel and you can show it, and hook the reader. Keep writing and when you’re finished one book, write the second book. AND always pay a good editor and copy editor. If you don’t your work will sell at first but you’ll go nowhere and your name will be sullied. Have your first book critiqued by a writing partner, then edited by a good editor. Use a professional graphic artist as well. The readers first impression to buy or not to buy is based on the cover. Keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep writing. Put butt in chair and write. There is no writer’s block. Sit down and write.
What are you reading now?
Extrasensory by Desiree Holt, the first book in her Phoenix Agency work.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I still have some characters jumping around in my head and I need to get them out and on paper with suspense and romance.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I think Shannon by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I’ve read it two+ times and can still remember the opening page.
