About Love, Despair and Other Heartaches
Cathy was extremely restless since returning from a recent conference in Boston. There was no doubt in her mind why she felt this way: she had met a colleague named Dan during the trip. After spending an evening with him at the bar, she had accepted an invitation to his hotel room. He was married, but not happily. She was drunk, but also unsure of any ulterior motives he might have had. She managed to come to her senses before anything terribly improper happened. Still, she could not get him out of her mind.
Deciding to call him and apologize for her ambiguous behavior, Dan was extremely pleased to hear from her. After several conversations and much deliberation, Cathy made arrangements to return to the scene of the crime to meet him. This time she was prepared for whatever might happen between the two of them. What she didn’t foresee was their weekend rendezvous developing into a full-blown long-term relationship. Nor could she ever predict something as special as what they had eventually deteriorating the horrible way it did.
