Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a stay at home mom to two girls, 5 and 3. I released my first novel in September 2018. I am currently working on my second.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is The Long Weekend and is loosely inspired by my time living in the town of Frelighsburg when I was a teenager. The romantic interest, Devon, is inspired by Jensen Ackles, one of my favorite actors. The story itself was a short story I started years ago, but kept adding to it. One day, a few people read it and said I should publish, and the rest is history!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to talk to myself a lot, especially when trying to write out the dialogue. I “act” out what my characters are saying to find the best way to write it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have always loved Alice Munro. Her descriptions of everyday situations are uncanny and she lends such a realistic flare to her characters voices. I also love the works of Kate Morton and Jojo Moyes. Morton for her imagery and history. Moyes for her characters and their voices.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a coming-of-age story about first love. It will definitely be a much longer work than my first novel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am fairly new at the online promotion game. I find websites like this one are great! I use Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook quite a bit, too.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write because you love it, not because you want to make money! (Something my husband reminds me of daily!)
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those that mind, don’t matter and those that matter, won’t mind.”
What are you reading now?
The first draft of my WIP! Other than that, I’m reading “Ruined” by M.C. Frank.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Try to have my second novel ready for publication in the summer of 2019.
What is your favorite book of all time?
This is nearly impossible to answer but one that is always dear to me is Jane Eyre. Oh, and I love Harry Potter, too.
