Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been writing since I was 6 years old. So, over the years I’ve written countless books, mostly unfinished and really, really bad! Hahaha. But you’ve gotta be bad before you can be good, right! I’ve just finished a trilogy and a series of short stories that I’m finally proud (and scared) to let people read. I now write for free. So if you want good quality, free erotic romances with a twist, come to my website!
On the side, I work as a nurse. But for the most part—I’m a not-for-profit writer.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The series is called ‘The Mother’s Children’. It consists of 3.5 books (the 0.5 being a short collection of stories). ‘The Barbarian’ is book 1, and I have to admit it was inspired by Daenerys and Khal Drogo’s relationship in The Game of Thrones. The story expanded from there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm. Can’t really say that I do. I’m what you call a ‘pantser’, which means I don’t plot a story. I just let the story come as it will, usually at the behest of the characters. I don’t write the story, the characters do!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Those who have really had the final impact and have really pushed me hard this last sprint to the finish line are Joe Abercrombie, GRR Martin, and Jojo Moyes. I’ve attempted to find an erotic writer I really like but am yet to find one. As you can see I love to mix dark fantasy and romance. A very eclectic combination! But lots of fun.
What are you working on now?
I’m constantly writing. Right now I’m posting on my website a highly explicit novella about a romance between a ‘wild’ man and a ‘civilised’ woman coming together after the species split down the gender line generations before. A kind of dystopian erotic romance, which I’ll likely expand into a novel at some point.
I’m also working on a dark fantasy about monsters and humans and their fight for survival, which is also explicit with mature themes. I’m keeping that one under my hat with the thought of attempting to traditionally publish it.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Golly! Still figuring that out. There are so many authors and books out there that without a lot of money backing you up, it’s hard to get your books out. Even for free! I’m just focusing on generating a fanbase at this point. Money isn’t my goal. All my work is currently available for free at www.morgantonkin.com
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes! Don’t expect to get rich. Do it because you love it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t expect to get rich. Do it because you love it.
What are you reading now?
The Martian by Andy Weir. My second read. Such a fantastic book! And a very rare example of an author’s meteoric success.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing lots and lots and lots and garnering a fanbase.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Easy! Harry Potter
