Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live with my wife, daughter, and many pets in the Pacific Northwest. I started writing stories in high school and decades later am still pursuing my dream. When I am not writing or reading or saving animals, I enjoy spending time with my family, the great outdoors, playing the guitar, or exercising in some form.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Forgotten Sky.
The characters themselves inspired it for the most part, but it is a Game of Thrones multi-character story in an expansive galaxy with vivid and original worlds.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Staying up as long as it takes to finish as section or chapter when everything is going well. That takes a lot of gum chewing and sugar intake to keep my brain going.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
George R.R. Martin, Tolkien, Dan Brown, Anthony Doerr
What are you working on now?
Three books. Two single stories: one a combined fantasy thriller/mystery and another where the afterlife for a character ends up being much different than they expected. The third is the sequel to The Forgotten Sky. All are in the final stages of editing after making it through all the alpha and beta readers and professional editors.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
For better or for worse, Amazon KDP seems to bring in a lot of readers. I initially tried to do it myself with advertising in a many places as I could, but it didn’t pay for itself.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
This process is a marathon. If you really want to do it, you’ll have to stay focused and work hard for years or decades.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The advice to just keep writing and one day you’ll have a story that will connect with people and your sales with skyrocket and you can make a living do this.
What are you reading now?
The Handmaiden’s Tale
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing up the 3 books I’ve been working on over the past couple years and keeping up with reading.
What is your favorite book of all time?
A Game of Thrones
