Ratish Ravindran

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a devoted follower of Lord Shri Krishna, whose teachings and principles have profoundly shaped my life. In moments of difficulty, I often pause to reflect on his wisdom, which brings me deep comfort and clarity. Professionally, I work in the IT industry and live with my wife, daughter, and mother. My father passed away during my childhood, and it was my mother and grandparents who played a pivotal role in guiding and nurturing me. As an author, I have written two books. My first, The Transcendental Wisdom, was an attempt to share my personal interpretations of themes from the Ramayana. Though it did not reach a wide readership, it did not deter my passion for writing. My second book tells the story of Rohan; a determined teenager whose relentless pursuit of his goal exemplifies resilience and purpose.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Echoes of Love: Footsteps to Glory is the title of my second book, a deeply personal narrative inspired by the passing of my grandmother. Her love, strength, and unwavering support shaped the person I am today, and her memory became the emotional foundation for the story. In the book, Rohan’s grandmother is portrayed exactly as mine, nurturing, wise, and profoundly influential. Through Rohan, I sought to create a character that every young boy aspires to be: driven, resilient, and guided by love. While few may have the opportunity to embody such a journey, my hope was to inspire readers to persevere, to never stop until their goals are achieved.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t follow any unusual writing rituals. My creative process is simple and intuitive, I enjoy reading, and occasionally, an idea resonates deeply enough to compel me to write it down. These moments of inspiration often emerge organically, shaped by reflection and quiet observation.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a child, I was captivated by The Adventures of Tintin by Hergé. The seamless blend of adventure, comedy, and thrill left a lasting impression on me. In my teenage years, I gravitated toward the mystery and suspense of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series, particularly enjoying the works of Franklin W. Dixon. Though I didn’t maintain a regular reading habit through my 30s, my curiosity reignited in my 40s, especially through compelling YouTube clips about the Indian Armed Forces. This newfound interest led me to explore powerful narratives such as India’s Most Fearless by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, Black Tornado by Sandeep Unnithan, and 1971 by Major General Ian Cardozo. These books profoundly influenced me, deepening my admiration for the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces and instilling a sense of pride in their extraordinary valour.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second instalment of my book, Echoes of Love: Footsteps to Glory – Part II. This continuation builds upon the emotional and inspirational journey introduced in the first volume, further exploring the themes of love, resilience, and personal triumph. Through this sequel, I aim to deepen the narrative arc and offer readers a more immersive experience into Rohan’s evolving story and the legacy that shaped him.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Although I’m still new to the world of publishing and currently working on my second book, I’ve come to appreciate how powerful the right platform can be. I haven’t yet explored every corner of the literary landscape, but I believe The Creative Circle (TCC) is a remarkable space, one that offers thoughtful guidance and practical suggestions for marketing a book effectively. I published my work through the SGSH platform, and within just the first 20 days, TCC played a pivotal role in elevating its visibility far beyond what I had imagined. Their support and promotional reach have been instrumental in helping my book find its audience. For any aspiring author wondering where to begin, I’d wholeheartedly suggest starting here, with prayer, purpose, and the right partners.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I believe that every individual is created with equal potential, no inherent difference in intellect, memory, or capability. The true distinction lies in how deeply we choose to explore and cultivate the gifts bestowed upon us by the Creator. While we all share this divine foundation, our personalities and responses vary, some welcome suggestions, while others may resist them. That’s why I offer thoughts as gentle suggestions, not advice. If I could write a book at the age of 46, I truly believe anyone with the desire to write could do so. The key is to begin with prayer, intention, and wholehearted effort. When we commit ourselves fully to a task, the rest is gracefully guided by the Lord.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My grandmother often reminded me of the importance of kindness and humility, especially toward our elders, whether they are our parents, grandparents, or others deserving of respect. She believed that caring for elders, helping those in need, and giving to charity, no matter how modest the amount, are sacred duties. Among her most cherished teachings was the belief that feeding the hungry and supporting the downtrodden is one of the purest ways to connect with the Almighty. Her words continue to guide me, shaping not only how I live but also the values I strive to reflect in my writing and actions

What are you reading now?
I just finished the book on “Ours not to reason why-with the IPKF in Sri Lanka” by Brigadier R.R.Palsokar.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have several ideas swirling in my mind. The first is a sequel to Rohan – Part 2, which continues the emotional and philosophical journey of the protagonist. Following that, I’m considering a book that explores the bond between a Labrador and its owner, a heartfelt narrative that delves into loyalty, companionship, and the quiet beauty of shared life. However, nothing is finalized yet. These plans may evolve depending on my mood and creative flow.

What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book? That’s a difficult question to answer. But if I had to choose, The Adventures of Tintin by Hergé stands out as my all-time favorite, a timeless companion I still revisit today. It brings back vivid memories of my childhood, filled with wonder and imagination. I adore the way the characters are portrayed. Snowy, Tintin’s loyal dog, is immaculate, charming, witty, and expressive. While dogs don’t speak in real life, Snowy’s conversations with Tintin add a delightful layer of humour and personality. Hergé’s brilliance lies in how he brings each character to life: the fiery Captain Haddock with his colourful outbursts, the bumbling yet endearing twins Thomson and Thompson, and the eccentric genius Professor Calculus, whose deafness leads to hilarious misunderstandings.
