Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m an small business owner, author, non-profit founder & president, PTSA president, wife, and mom from Oklahoma. I’ve published six books, and have two more releasing over the next six months.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book, Diomere’s Mercenary, was published in September 2020, but the financial strain the shut down put on my small business meant I wasn’t able to promote it much.
Diomere’s Mercenary is book 3 of my steamy fantasy romance series, The Gate Keeper Chronicles. It was inspired by my love of the mythical harpy and dragons. The entire series includes all my favorite mythical creatures, from mermaids to harpies to the massive manticore.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My favorite place to write is in a bubble bath. My hubbie built me a sturdy bath tray to set my computer on and I use it almost every night.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Fantasy author, Brandon Sanderson, inspired my wish to write my own books. Romance author, Nalini Singh, is my #authorgoals idol. If I become even half as good as she is, I’ll count myself a success.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my February 2022 release, a bear shifter romance collaboration project based on five bear shifter brothers. A different romance author will write each of the five brothers’ stories. I’m writing the story for brother #3, Beau King.
The King brothers promised their late mother they’d find wives per the stipulation in their late father’s will for them to be able to inherit their family land. Little did they know that Momma King would make sure they kept their promise by paying for a Wives Wanted ad to run in papers across the nation after her death. As you can imagine, women show up in their little town in droves. You’ll have to check out the series to see what lucky women manage to snag the hearts of these sexy grizzly shifters.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Email promo sites like Pretty-Hot.com are honestly the best at getting my book in front of readers for an affordable price. Unlike running ads on social media and other sites, I know that my book is being delivered into the inboxes of readers who’ve signed up specifically to read my genre. It’s pretty wonderful.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. If 2020 taught me nothing else, it’s how to persevere even when the obstacles feel insurmountable. I wasn’t financially able to promote my published books, so sales were down last year. Rather than let that get me down, I shifted gears and focused on writing new books. Now, I’ve recovered financially and can once again afford to promote my books. AND because I didn’t let the lack of sales stop me from being productive, I’ve got new books to promote this year. Never give up. You’ve totally got this.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t judge yourself based on other author/writer’s writing pace. Some people write fast, some write slow. There is no right or wrong way. Do what works for you.
What are you reading now?
Fly with the Arrow: A Bluebeard Inspired Fantasy (Bluebeard’s Secret Book 1) by Sarah K. L. Wilson
It’s a romantic fantasy story about a stolen bride and a world with a psychedelic “Alice in Wonderland” feel. I’m enjoying the mystery of trying to figure out all the shades of gray in our blue-bearded hero. And I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My next book, Auras, Heirs, & Witchy Affairs, releases in October. It’s a steamy paranormal romance collaborative project about three witchy sisters. Then, Attracting his Mate, my bear shifter paranormal romance collaborative project releases in February. After that, I’ll leave the collaborative writing alone for awhile and finish book 4 of The Gate Keeper Chronicles.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. The hero, Kaleb, is one of my all time favorite characters, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his journey in the Psy/Changling Series.
