Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve just released my first non-fiction, a book of true, short stories told by women who found self-confidence and their personal freedom. The first book in what I intend to be an ongoing series, I’m working on the second book now. I’ve also co-written several books of fiction with indie author Pamela Murdaugh-Smith, the first one being ‘A Biker Saga; The Novel’ which is an epic tale of extraordinary proportions about a unique family of bikers drawn into an unprecedented war on the biker community.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
‘Badass Women Live By Their Own Rules’, inspired by a personal desire to encourage women around the world to break through the barriers of tradition and gain their own personal freedom.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Other than I the fact that I absolutely must be barefoot (it’s a comfort thing) and truly prefer to have a glass of wine within reach… no, not really. Things like background music are optional, depending on what I’m writing. In truth, the only thing I require is total silence, or better yet, the sound of Mother Ocean’s waves in the distance, and I’m good to go until I can’t keep my eyes open and my fingers typing any longer.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
In my own reality, I suppose my biggest influence has been my own life experience. As far as authors go, the most remarkable for me is J.R.R. Tolkien. In my opinion, Tolkien is by far the most ingenious writer… ever!
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the next book in my series ‘Badass Women by Sissy Barr’, and as long as women are sending in their submissions to share their stories to encourage other’s to listen to their own inner-woman, I’ll keep this series going. I’m also working on a fictional story as well.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
An author’s official website is an important asset when promoting your books, and so is social media. Unfortunately, for those who didn’t grow up with the advanced technology we have today, it can be difficult and frustrating to navigate. Presently, I’m working on attracting the attention of several book clubs. Wish me luck?!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Edit.. edit… edit, utilize beta readers, and when it comes to promoting, be diligent in your research. Watch tutorials, use your resources, pay attention to successful authors. And most importantly, choose your title and cover with care!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Back in the day, when I was stressing over bills, a very smart man looked me dead-in-the-eye and said five words to me that literally changed me… on several different levels.
“Stop worrying, they can’t eat you!”
What are you reading now?
I haven’t read a book in months, although I probably should take a break and dive into one soon. I’m open for suggestions!
What’s next for you as a writer?
At the moment, I’m preparing to start my own Youtube channel, doing the research, watching the videos, reading up on everything I can before I commit. I’m also researching the possibilities of Patreon. If one doesn’t stay up-to-date and continue to grow and expand their talents, and business, failure is inevitable.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Hobbit, and of course, the trilogy that follows. Although I read these books back in grade school, though the years I’ve keep them close, and every few years I pull them off the shelf one-by-one and allow my imagination to revisit the most fabulous characters and magical places I’ve never been.
