What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest novel is tired “Careless Love.” It comes from a wonderful blues song written by W. C. Handy in 1921. The book was partially inspired by Madeleine Peyroux’s recording. But I also had a desire to expose some people (good & bad) who I felt needed to be portrayed in a stark light.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I seem to have a voice that visits me and gives me the first line of the book, tells me how it must end and pushes me fill in the middle. That first line never remains the first line, but it’s always in the book somewhere.

I do enjoy early Twentieth Century writers; Fitzgerald, Hemingway & the like. And also Tom Wolfe & John Irving.
