Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been a professional writer since 2002, so I’ve produced a lot of books during that time. My first one was a traditionally published paperback book called Peace, complete with the advance and marketing/promotion team they provided. After that, I wanted to try self-publishing, so I wrote for Amazon and published a lot of my children’s and YA books there. I don’t know the exact number of title.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Starsky and Hutch Next Gen. What inspired it is the original TV characters, but the next generation belongs to their sons Davis and Kent, who are not only partners, but blood brothers, as their fathers had a relationship with the same woman. (Sounds like a Lifetime movie waiting to happen!)
The original TV characters of Starsky and Hutch were my heroes. They fought crime, helped victims, and stood for what was right. They were the biggest reason I wanted to be a social worker. So, since apples don’t fall far from the tree, Davis and Kent are like their dads in that respect, but they are not carbon copies. They are unique individuals with their own tastes, flaws, and strengths.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can think of two. When I sit down first thing in the morning to write, I like to do it with a cup of coffee and a Hershey’s chocolate bar with almonds. That combination really gets the creative juices flowing. The second unusual habit is that I normally don’t get up until I’ve finished my short story or article. With books, of course, I take a break after 10 or 12 hours of writing. You can get a lot of writing done in that length of time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Peter Benchley was one of the first. It was Jaws I read.
What are you working on now?
Just promoting the works I have. I won’t be writing other books or stories, but I would like to be encouraging to new writers with my Facebook page, especially fanfic writers.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like Amazon’s author page, and Facebook.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Sure, always. Don’t let rejection deter you. It happens to all writers. Use it to make you better, and inspire you to keep trying. Believe in yourself and your writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t give up.
What are you reading now?
Nothing really. But the King James Bible tab is open on my browser.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Nothing I can think of. Just promoting and supporting other writers.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Has to be the Bible. My goodness. It is full of great situations and people.
