About The Spooky Sponge by Sam Cairns:
Annie Morton is eight years old. A bit shorter and chubbier than the average girl her age, there are two things in life that really bug her: getting out of bed, and getting a wash. She can’t stand it! The very thought of it makes her want to pull the blankets over her head every morning and stay in bed forever. That is, until she meets The Spooky Sponge: a snotty-coloured, raggy bit of sponge that has goggly eyes and a wrinkly mouth. But this is no ordinary sponge. This one lives. Both magical and spooky, it has powers that only Annie can control. In this book, The Spooky Sponge meets Annie’s Mum. Author Bio:
Sam Cairns started writing to alleviate boredom after an accident down the pit. Unable to work for a couple of months he picked up a pen and wrote what was going to be the next and quickest best-seller. Instant fame did not happen so he went back underground.Years later, the writing bug took hold. Sketches, scripts, poetry and stories brought some successes, including one of the biggest highs in his life when a short film won a regional competition. This was followed by his poetically written book ‘The Hearts Live On’ selling over 3100 copies in its first year. (Mainly on a regional basis)He is now focussing on writing childrens books, but will one day return to his love of the pits and when work is no longer a necessity, will finish the books he started, about the year long pit strike and a book about a fictional local football team.
