Why do you want to lose weight?
The question above is probably one of the most provocative questions asked all over the world because it has varying answers based on what the respondent desires. But before we go on with this book, you should take a few minutes to think about the question and come up with a personalized answer.
While the whole world knows how important it is for people to lose weight or avoid being over-weight, many people go about it the wrong way because they don’t even know why they are doing it.
For you to succeed with anything that relates with your body, you must have a motive; otherwise, you will not have the mental and physical capacity to go through with the desired change long-term.
Regardless of your reason for weight loss, which could range for just wanting to be healthy to get that beach body, one idea remains constant; you must lose calories to make it happen.
So what are calories?
Calories are a way of keeping track of the body’s energy budget; you get a healthy balance when you put in as much energy as you lose. So if you are consistent with putting more energy into your body than what you burn, the excess will be stored as fat in your cells, and that’s how you gain weight.
But if you burn off more energy than what you replenish, you will lose weight, which means you must be able to measure the energy you consume and how you use it, this happens with a unit called the “Calorie.”
Everything we consume has calories count; for example, an average pizza slice has about 272 calories while an apple has about 52 calories. Since 3,500 calories equal 1 pound, which is 0.45 kilogram of fat, you will need to burn 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound of body weight.
If you cut 500-1,000 calories in a day from your diet, you will lose 1-2 pounds a week. There are other factors to consider when talking about cutting calories, such as exercise, food type, and your body’s ability to process energy.
However, it isn’t as simple as it may sound because you don’t get to discover this detailed information on a food label. The food label will tell you the number of calories in it and not what you will need to do to stay on the right side of things.
So this brings us to the objective of this book, the sections, and chapters you will find below will help you discover healthy and productive ways to cut calories off while aiding weight loss. Are you ready to get started with step one? We will begin with a fundamental idea that will make all the difference in your health and weight loss journey.
