Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve always been a writer, but I didn’t turn to fiction until later in life. I worked for seventeen years as a congressional investigator, so I love to add fun facts and detail to my books. I’m a hybrid author with books published by big publishers, a small press and myself. My titles have been best-sellers internationally and on the USA Today Bestsellers list. My first book was published in 2013 and my twelfth book comes out in March of this year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
BETWEEN LOVE AND HONOR (March 26, 2020, from Tule Publishing) is the third book in my romantic suspense series featuring agents of the Secret Service. I always wanted to write a book that takes place in the White House but that wasn’t political. I love the history of the mansion. In the third installment in the series, I bring together two individuals for a second chance romance–except both are spies and neither one knows that about the other one!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. Well, except for my husband hiding Dove chocolate around the house for those times when I have writer’s block–usually every afternoon!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Obviously, Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Also Rachel Gibson and Suzane Enoch. I love their snarky humor. Someday I hope to write as cleverly as they do.
What are you working on now?
I’m returning to my roots and writing a rom-com sports romance about a Scottish place-kicker in the NFL who needs to marry quickly in order to avoid being deported. It’s a twist on The Proposal with a little bit of Outlander sexiness sprinkled in. New team. New city. Lots of sexy athletes.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my newsletter, on social media and reader newsletters.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Sit your butt in the chair and write. Then join a writer’s group to learn the craft so you can revise what you’ve written. Then write some more. Never rest on your laurels.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Their way is not your way. Everyone has their own path in this business. The virtual bookshelf is infinite and there is room for many different authors.
What are you reading now?
I just finished Kelly Bowen’s Devils in Dover series. I loved it!!! Next on my TBR pile is Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal for 2020 is to have my books translated into other languages and sold worldwide. Additionally, I’m planning to launch my new series featuring the Milwaukee Growlers.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh, wow! That’s a hard one. I’ve read Little Women multiple times, but I’m about to go on a Jane Austen binge-read again. In commercial fiction, The Thorn Birds is a favorite.
