Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve done a lot of things in my life. I’ve been a police officer, fossil hunter, lover, wife and mom. I’ve climbed mountains. And I’ve always written.
I’ve written four books, so far. Four and a half if you count work in progress, and I always do!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
desire for Touch, which is Part 1 of a 3-part series I call Surrender to Ecstasy is my latest. It never occurred to me to write erotic Romance until I realized, as a feminist, how many women don’t even know how their own bodies work. Or that it’s okay to want what you want. That’s part of being empowered as people.
I wanted to talk about that, show a woman who questions everything but has the self-esteem and strength to accept who she is and demand what she needs, without in any way dis-empowering the Alpha male she naturally is attracted to.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I’m pretty boring. I do a LOT of research. I do make a blog for every book or script or article and post pictures and m notes there, to help make the world and the people real to myself. And keep track of things!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Truman Capote. Harper Lee, Stephen King, William Goldman, Isaac Asimov. Melville, believe it or not. I love Moby Dick. Emily Dickenson.
A lot of poets and a lot of composers. The pacing and grace, the tension and dram and release, the use of silence in music has been a great influence on my writing style.
What are you working on now?
Part 2 of Surrender, desire for Bliss, which I’ve promised for December. It’s more a mystery now that Ben and Avia have found each other.
FLIGHT – the first in a series of shorter books about angels and the people who love them. Not erotica, but a bit sexy, I hope!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
No idea! I’ve just started learning about promotion. I do love PRETTY-HOT.COM and the way it’s laid out and is so open to women finding what they really want in a book as well as writing what they feel inspired to.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
DO NOT BE IN A HURRY. Srsly, I get it.
Just take your time, put it aside, come back. Writing is rewriting isn’t a trite phrase, it’s a truth.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
re: writing – “Get up; get dressed.” It’s a job. You don’t practice law or serve food in a diner in your pajamas.
re: life – “Let the little shit go.” Srsly, how much of your day do you want to ruin because someone took that parking spot?
What are you reading now?
Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d like to get some of my nonfiction on Amazon, finish the Surrender series and concentrate on Flight, which I conceived as a series of novellas, each featuring one angel of the Flight and their relationship with a mortal and the Mission they are all on.
What is your favorite book of all time?
To Kill a Mockingbird. I bet I’ve read through six copies until they fell apart and I had to buy another.
