Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Fiona Roarke and I’m a romance writer because really, what else would I be? 🙂 Also I think I’m funny.
Here is my standard bio :
Fiona Roarke is a multi-published author who lives a quiet life with the exception of the characters and stories roaming around in her head. She writes about sexy alpha heroes and used them to launch her very first series, Bad Boys in Big Trouble.
Next up, a new Sci-Fi contemporary romance series set in Arkansas. When she’s not curled on the sofa reading a great book or at the movie theater watching the latest action film, Fiona spends her time writing about the next bad boy (or bad boy alien) who needs his story told.
A hearty dose of laughter, each and every day, is required along with lots of coffee first thing in the morning as important parts of her routine.
Since January 2016, I’ve written 10 books as Fiona Roarke, including the Bad Boys in Big Trouble (6-book) series of sexy romantic suspense novels. Because nothing’s sexier than a good man gone bad boy.
And more recently I wrote a sci-fi romance You’ve Got Aliens set in my fictional town of Alienn Arkansas at the Big Bang Truck Stop. There are seven siblings each with a story roaming around in my head.
However, I also wrote over 50 books from 2006 to 2015 under other pen names for an e-publisher, some of which will (20) be re-released over the next couple of years under my new Fiona Roarke name.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
You’ve Got Aliens, Alienn, Arkansas 1 (Feb. 2017) – I used to live in Arkansas. I’ve always wanted to write a Science Fiction Romance series set there. I have to say it’s totally fun, too.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Hmm. Not sure they are unusual. Like many writers, coffee is fuel especially in the morning. I don’t plot. I fly by the seat of my pants when I write. I’m actually an anti-plotter. If I write something down, I purposely won’t use it. I’ll think of something better as I go along. Maybe I’m stubborn, not sure. I don’t listen to music or television when I write and often I wear noise canceling headphones more to stay focused than to block sound. Working at home lends itself to DISTRACTIONS galore and I”m certainly not immune to well, everything.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was influenced early on by Angela Knight and a short story called Blood and Kisses. After reading it I wanted to write sexy sci-fi stories like that.
But the truth is there are hundreds of authors and books that have influence me over the years.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on the second book in my Alienn Arkansas series, called How to Lose an Alien in 10 Days. I’m hoping to have it out in a couple months.
I’m also working on the third in a trilogy set in the Nocturne Falls Universe, called The Alien Who Fell to Earth, coming Sept. 2017
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do the standard stuff. I put in out on my social media outlets and try to grab an ad here an there. I send out a newsletter to notify those interested in new books. But it’s hard for me. I always want to be writing the next book.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. It’s a difficult career filled with lots of obstacles and tons of things that aren’t fair, but if you truly want to create stories for others to enjoy…then don’t give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
No one ever said life was going to be fair, courtesy of my mother. She was right as she always is. 🙂
Best writing advice I ever got…write what you love to write. Not what is trendy for the next five minutes or something you don’t like or that someone else thinks you should write.
Write what you love to write.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading a Kristen Painter book The Shifter Romanced the Writer. Love it. 🙂
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will likely stick with Sci-Fi Romance for the time being. It’s what I love to write.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe.
