Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Bristol, Rhode Island and work as an engineer at the Navy Base in Newport. Children of Apis: Rebel Blood is my first self-published novel. When I’m not keeping my wife awake with the clicking of the keyboard, I work as an electrical engineer in Newport, R.I. My hobbies include, softball, running, spinning, and writing.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled Children of Apis: Rebel Blood. My wife first came up with the idea that I should write a book, since I read so much. After laughing for a while, I realized it wasn’t such a crazy idea. Shortly after, I had an idea for a post-apocalyptic/dystopian book and the novel took off.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I attack writing like I solve engineering problems. I try to break up the book into smaller chunks, so the task isn’t as formidable. I initially come up with chapter ideas for the beginning, middle, and end of my books and then slowly add bullet points for each chapter. Eventually I have the book essentially outlined and then I can start writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King was my favorite writer growing up. Joe Abercrombie has been a recent influence.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second book of the Children of Apis series. I am hoping to publish it later this year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am in the midst of learning marketing techniques, since my book just came out four weeks ago. I am going to attempt countdown deals/free deals soon and try and hit a number of websites at the same time.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just try to organize your thoughts in the beginning. Try not to force ideas. If you run into a roadblock take a shower, exercise, or go for a long walk. I find that inspiration hits whenever it feels like it. You just need a notebook handy to jot down your thoughts.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From the late North Carolina State basketball coach “Jimmy V” Valvano “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up!”
What are you reading now?
The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan to continue writing the Children of Apis series. Hopefully, I will continue to build a fan base who will provide the inspiration to keep writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Probably The Stand by Stephen King
