Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m not a seasoned writer. I have written only seven novels and 2 Grammar English Books. Some of my poems found their way in two anthologies. Right now, I am working on another crime novel, which, I hope, will be released on August 15th.
I write both under my real name and under a pen name (Rowena Dawn)
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last novel is “Scents and Shadows”, a crime novel. Although part of a series (McNamara), it is a stand alone, as all my novels. The idea came to me in autumn, while walking my dog at midnight by a ravine. The moonlight played a trick and I thought I saw something that wasn’t there.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Maybe only that I might find it difficult to write for days and even weeks – I am good at procrastinating. However, if need be, I can write a novel in five days. (I tried it and it worked).
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have many favorite authors, most of them classics. However, in that regarding my crime novels, I found inspiration mostly in Agatha Christie. In that concerning my romance novels, I think I was inspired by Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Mary Balogh…
What are you working on now?
I’m working on another crime novel, A Churchgoing Woman, which (I hope) I will release on August 15th.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Oh, that’s not so easy. I studied marketing. I wrote papers on marketing. I made studies… When it comes to my own marketing…. it doesn’t really work. I can sell other people’s books but not mine.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Nothing comes easy. What comes easy doesn’t really count. Your time will come.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Not to check the reviews put on my books.
What are you reading now?
As I read between one and three books a day (depending on the work load), it is difficult to pinpoint to a specific book. However, I am in a relaxation phase, so I read historical romance mostly.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I will have to write another crime novel and two romances. I also have an idea for two time-travel romances (that idea keeps coming into my mind. I will have to give in)
What is your favorite book of all time?
I have several but I should mention Mermoz (Joseph Kessel). It was an eyeopener and, moreover, it pushed me to try further.
