Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey there, I’m an Australian actress and author based in Melbourne. I have written six books but only four have been released.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am a sex-positive feminist who has a healthy perspective of sexuality and erotica.
Tantric Afternoons is my erotic memoir based on my sexual adventures. The book is arousing, raw and occasionally in-your-face. The book launched to rave reviews in Australia.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a bit of OCD going on with my writing habits. I need ‘total quiet’ to write. I can’t even hear a whisper of a TV or radio.
Sometimes I have the fan going in my office (even in winter) to block out other noises. I can handle ‘white noise’ but that’s about it. Silence is what enables me to write.
I also have a pair of flats (shoes) that I have often worn behind my desk when writing well. They have become a permanent writing necessity of recent times. When I can’t find those shoes – I have a freak-out. (ha) So there’s a few of my quirky habits for you.
I could possibly be going mad……I haven’t considered that as a fact yet. (ha)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
For erotica and erotic memoirs – you can’t beat Anais Nin and Catherine Millet. Their writings awaken my body.
But overall Charles Bukowski. He’s God. (or so I’ve heard).
What are you working on now?
I am doing the promotion for my non-fiction book ‘Don’t Hit Me!’ about domestic violence. I am also putting the finishing touches on a few titles.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am a self-promotion queen. I love pushing my work. I love the chase and I love the kill. There is no method in my madness.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day. Believe in your voice. Never censor yourself.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Never apologize for what you write, it’s like apologizing for who you are”
I can’t remember who said it. But it’s great. I also like this one from Oscar Wilde:
‘The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world it’s own shame.”
What are you reading now?
The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer.
What’s next for you as a writer?
A glass of red wine.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Geez that’s tough. Bukowski is my favorite author of all time. I love all his books, I couldn’t pick just one.
I do think highly of ‘Veronika Decides to Die’ & ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho.
And ‘Letter To D’ by French Journalist Andre Gorz is INCREDIBLE. I needed therapy after that book. I could not stop crying!
