Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve always been an avid reader, but due to life changes in the past few years, I needed other things to focus my attention on. That lead to a houseplant jungle, and trying my hand at writing. I’m about to publish my fourth book in a year and it still amazes me each time I get to the end of one.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Deconstructing Delilah will release next month. It’s a spin-off of my second book, Brutal Play, and focuses on a woman who leaves a religious cult but does not leave her faith. Even after meeting a man who challenges every bit of it. It’s an age-gap romance and something of a Samson and Delilah retelling.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to have movies or television shows playing in the background. If it’s too quiet I can’t focus at all. And I am horrible at plotting too far in advance. Once I get to a place that needs some thought on the plot, I stop writing for the day and I fall asleep thinking about it that night.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jay Crownover and Karina Halle have both been great supporters and role models for me.
What are you working on now?
Hockey romance! I married a hockey player and we live in Washington state. When it was announced that we were finally getting an NHL team, we were both very excited. Since we’ve been entrenched in playoffs it’s been a big inspiration on what I’m currently writing.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I hire a PR company for every book, they’re a great help at getting me in front of bloggers and influencers. Selling myself makes me anxious, but I’m trying my best to get out there on social media and network with other authors. There is still so much to learn!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t expect instant results, it’s a journey, not a race.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The same advice I just gave. Have reasonable expectations about this industry. Most authors take years to gain the success they desire.
What are you reading now?
A rejected mate story. Everything I read has to have an element of betrayal, so this should fit the bill.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have my first signings coming up! I’ll be focused on not letting the nerves get the best of me.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Ooh, tough question! I can’t choose just one. I love Jane Eyre, I have a strange infatuation with Alice in Wonderland, but I also love darker stories. Interview With a Vampire is an all-time favorite, as is Saide by Courtney Summers.
